17U Black Bracket Championship: PSB 66, CP25 64
The game started off as a back-and-forth battle in which the teams exchanged leads several times. Eventually, CP25 gained the advantage thanks to some hot shooting from Tre Dixon and Isaiah Jones. By halftime, CP25 had a 35-28 advantage that would continue to grow in the second half. CP25’s lead ballooned to 17 points in the second half, but PSB started to ramp up its pressure on defense. Slowly, PSB chipped away at the lead until they tied the game.
Appropriately, the final minutes of the game were as back-and-forth as the first few minutes. With mere seconds left on the clock, JJ Wheat nailed a free throw to tie the game at 64. After Wheat missed the second attempt, David Giddens grabbed the offensive board and putback to complete PSB’s come-from-behind championship victory.
PSB’s Kristian Shaw led the team in scoring with 16 points. He was one of the most consistently great players of the weekend, so it’s fitting that he helped lead his team to their championship win. Perhaps no player was more integral in PSB’s comeback than Tyler Moore. He scored all 11 of his points in the second half. David Giddens scored 14, including the game-winning basket. JJ Wheat added 10 points.
Tre Dixon was sensational for CP25. He scored 20 points and hit three 3-pointers. Isaiah Jones also connected for a trio of shots from beyond the arc, and he finished with 15. Jaborri McGhee added 10 points.
