A-Private and 4A Championship Preview

The state championships will be officially underway today with A-private and 4A kicking off the action. Holy Innocents' and Mt. Pisgah will battle it out for the A-private title and Fayette County and Baldwin will play for the 4A title. Here is a preview for both games. The games can be streamed on NFHS.

No. 1 Holy Innocents' vs No. 1 Mt. Pisgah

Mt. Pisgah is coming into the championship game not having lost in over a month. The Patriots won their region championship and had to take down some tough teams in the playoffs including Providence Christian and St. Anne PacelliΒ to reach the finals. They are led by Chase Tucker, JoJo Peterson, Kasheem Grady, and Nate Gordon who can all go out and score double digits in any game. Holy Innocents' also had a tough route to get to this point. Senior Garrison Powell had a big performance in the Final Four against St. Francis, leading the Golden Bears with 23 points and four assists. Fellow senior Landon Kardian and junior Justin Wilson can get after it as well. Both of these teams have a strong defensive presence. Mt. Pisgah has some athletic, big guards that they can throw at Powell for different looks. This should be a good one to watch.

No. 1 Fayette County vs No. 1 Baldwin

The 4A classification had some of the most unpredictable outcomes in the entire state. Fayette County had to beat a Westover team who clawed their way into the Final Four. Big time junior Kaleb Banks has led the Tigers all season, putting up huge numbers. Available senior Terry Brown, sophomore RJ Kennedy, and senior Cardell Bailey have been consistent all season. This team is athletic and long; they have plenty of go-to options when they need a bucket or stop. Baldwin's run has been impressive. The Braves earned a hard fought win in the Final Four over McDonough to reach the championship. This is a balanced team filled with players that can contribute on a nightly basis. William Freeman, Rudolph Satcher, Jermyus Simmons, and others can all go out and get 8+ points. With only two seniors on this team, they are extremely young and will be a force to reckon with for the next few seasons. It will be difficult to contain Banks, but if Baldwin can limit Fayette's role players, that could be the difference.Β
