On Tuesday night, No. 1 seeded Kell secured their spot in the Final Four for the second year in a row with a 78-68 win over another No. 1 seed, Westlake. 

The Longhorns were driven to victory by big scoring nights from Scoot Henderson and Jaylen Harris. The pair combined for 45 of Kell’s 78 points. Henderson scored 25 and Harris finished with 20. 

From the start, it was clear how badly Kell wanted this game. They played with a level of intensity that wins championships. If there was a loose ball, there was a Longhorn sacrificing his body in an attempt to secure the possession for his team. 

Not to be outdone, Westlake’s Jalal McKie put on a show of his own. Despite being hampered by foul trouble, McKie scored 29 points for the Lions. When Westlake fell behind early, McKie was a key contributor in bringing the Lions back into the game. 

After starting the game on the wrong side of a 7-0 run, Westlake came roaring back, and the two teams battled back-and-forth throughout the remainder of the first half. 

As the two exchanged leads, tensions started to mount and the intensity in the building amplified. 

Kell hung on to a 35-32 lead at the half. 

 With the help of a pair of 3-pointers from Jaylen Harris in the third quarter, Kell built a double-digit lead that they’d never relinquish. 

Dylan Cambridge was a solid post presence for Kell. He scored 11 points down low for the Longhorns. 

Westlake’s backcourt was impressive for stretches. Christian Johnson and Gaddis Heath scored 15 and 14 respectively. 

Heath and McKie are two juniors that figure to have huge summers leading into their senior seasons. With that duo, Westlake can reasonably expect to make a tournament run next season too. 

Now, Kell awaits the winner of Chattahoochee and Lee County.
