The class of 2022 in the state of Georgia is star-studded, jam-packed and full of promise. It could be a historic group. After a busy spring of watching film and a summer in the gym scouting players, we’ve extended, updated and edited our junior rankings for the Peach State. 

Before we get into it, have a look at the new top 25 for the class of 2022 from the state of Georgia. 

ON GUARD: THE BATTLE FOR THE NO. 1 SPOT 

I could see the No. 1 spot be in constant battle from now until the time the class graduates. We saw Scoot Henderson own our HoopSeen stage in 2020. He was dominate. There are few players nationally who can take over a game with his point production, rim attacking and constant attack mode mentality quite like the Game Elite/Kell HS guard can. 

Bruce Thornton of TSF/Milton is one of the best point guards I’ve ever covered in the state of Georgia. He’s a winner, plain and simple. I think he’s one of the most complete guards in the nation. 

The push and pull for the No. 1 spot will be a back-and-forth competition, in my opinion. And that’s great for the entire class of 2022 in the state of Georgia. 

GOING FORWARD: HOW GODFREY, WIGGINS, BANKS PLAY OUT

There is a run of players in this 2022 class who possess the talent to develop into some of the best combo forward 

Randall Godfrey, Jr. checks in at No. 3 overall. From top to bottom, there aren’t too many players who posses the talent that Godfrey does at the combo forward from Atlanta XPress/North Gwinnett does. He can guard virtually every position at the high school level and we are watching further development in his overall offensive game. The game is designed for players like him now. 

There are a number of players that closely follow Godfrey. At No. 4 is Chauncey Wiggins, who is now at Grayson. The 6-foot-9 forward has as high of a ceiling as any player in the class. His three-point shooting ability paired with his size is incredibly enticing for high-major programs. 

Close behind Wiggins at No. 5 overall is his Atlanta Celtics teammate Kaleb Banks, who is now at Fayette County. The 6-foot-7 forward was one of the biggest stock-risers in the state of Georgia in the 2020 calendar year. He’s primed for a monster junior season. 

BIG MEN BATTLES

Coming in at No. 6 overall is big man Joyful Hawkins of Game Elite/Glynn Academy and at No. 7 overall is Malique Ewin of Team Huncho/Berkmar. 

Both big men possess talent that helps in the here and now and talent that should continue on at the next level in college. Hawkins is a familiar name with this class. He’s bounced around a lot over the last 12 months but he’s produced on the travel season, reminding anyone watching that he’s a problem. Ewin could be on the brink of a big year at Berkmar. We saw flashes of great things to come on the travel circuit from him this season. 

ROUNDING OUT THE TOP 10

The guards fill out the rest of the top 10 in this loaded 2022 group. Robert Cowherd (Grayson), Zocko Littleton (South Cobb) and Chase Cormier (Greenforest) come in next in this updated ranking. 

Cowherd is a big guard with a frame that has drawn the looks for high-majors from all over the country. Littleton and Cormier are two of the best shooters in the class from Georgia’s 2022 class.
