JY's Meat & Three: Great advice on how to create valuable video for college coaches
It is lunchtime somewhere. So, welcome back to the lunch hour read of the Meat & Three. Every weekday I dive into a big picture topic and three things to get you through a quarantine spring. Today’s meat is a wonderful Twitter thread of value (they exist!), the NBA Early Entry list, a fun SUVtv rewatch, and, of course, the Ty Freeman photo of the day.
THE MEAT: HOW TO BUILD A GREAT HIGHLIGHT VIDEO
The deeper we get into the Q-Tine, the more I find myself not looking at Twitter. The blue check army never runs out of ammo and hot takes abound around the clock. Sometimes you just need a break.
But there are other times when you stumble across something of value that restores your appreciation for the platform. I came across this Twitter thread from coach Priscilla Edwards, the associate head coach at Providence. She broke down the value of a highlight tape and how and what to create for college coaches. The breakdown is terrific. If you are a high school or travel coach, please share with your players and parents.

I greatly appreciate the highlight videos, they have been a MAJOR asset during this time. Wanted to share some thoughts on how to maximize them for us Coaches... Here's a small thread...
1. With hudl the circle / arrow / "check this out" effect, if you can go without it. It makes the video much longer, and disrupts the flow. We can identify you by number, and the fact its your video.

2. Swap free throws for more impactful clips. If you don't have highlights for scores, we would rather see defensive clips, rebounding clips, passing clips...show your all around game. We pay attention to that.

3. Be mindful of song choice. It should go without saying but please use edited music. Its not about what songs you like. Most time I watch on mute. OR play the audio so we can hear you communicate.

4. It doesn't have to do too long. If we like what we see, we will probably request a full game anyway. 2-3 mins max.

5. If you're a shooter - show levels. Catch & Shoots, Off the Bounce, from deep, contested, pressure makes..etc
— Priscilla Edwards (@_PEbasketball) April 21, 2020
6. All positions - Show plays you make without the ball. Basket cuts, good reads on screens, YOU screening for others...
— Priscilla Edwards (@_PEbasketball) April 21, 2020
7. It's ok to add a longer clip if it shows an important sequence. Defensive stop leading to a big basket, and another stop etc...
— Priscilla Edwards (@_PEbasketball) April 21, 2020
8. Be mindful of who the clips are against. We want to gauge you vs. the BEST competition...we can usually tell if the comp isn't that good.
— Priscilla Edwards (@_PEbasketball) April 21, 2020
9. Sprinkle in some intangibles - picking a teammate up, getting folks into a huddle...high fives!
— Priscilla Edwards (@_PEbasketball) April 21, 2020
10. Finally, make it accessible...Pin it to the top of your Twitter, post it to your IG, update it to your Hudl page. Can't tell you how many I've stumbled across because it's featured.

THE NOTE
The NBA Draft early entry list is complete. Here is the list of players who are testing the waters. That’s an awfully crowded pool in a time of distancing.
The deadline to withdraw and retain college eligibility is June 3 at 5 pm EST.
THE STREAM
Let’s go back to 2016 when Zion Williamson and Ashton Hagans locked horns at the FBI Classic in South Carolina at Dorman High School. The two blue-chippers were mainstays in prep hoops conversations at the time but it was the athletic play of UNC Greensboro star Isaiah Miller that also caused a stir at the holiday tournament. This is a fun re-watch from our friends at SUVtv.
THE TY FREEMAN PHOTO OF THE DAY
The lens of Ty Freeman catches it all. This week we look take a look at the perspective that Ty brought from the 2019 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions.
