Taking a look at Alabama's Unsigned Seniors
As we head down the home stretch of the high school basketball season, several prospects from the state of Alabama have already decided where they will take their talents for college. However, there are a number of quality seniors still available throughout the state.
Here are six players who have starred in their senior campaign and caught the eyes of college coaches and media this season...
Jalen Myers, Bob Jones, SF/PF: Myers has been one of the most impressive players I have seen this season. The senior has consistently been a double-double threat with his scoring and rebounding abilities. Couple that with his vision and passing attributes and Myers is an intriguing option at the next level. The lefty had strong performances in the N2 Hoops Invitational and the Huntsville City Classic, posting some 20-point and 20-rebound performances. Mississippi State hosted the 6-foot-7 combo forward for an unofficial visit a few weeks ago and one of several schools involved in his recruitment. As the area tournament quickly approaches, Myers will be a popular eval for college coaches.
Sam Youngblood, McAdory, SG: No matter the competition, McAdory sharpshooter Sam Youngblood has produced in his final high school season. The skilled 6-foot-2 guard has one of the most polished skill-sets in the South. Fighting through an assortment of different defenses, Youngblood has still been able to average nearly 25 points per game in area play so far. With his ability to shoot and score at all three levels and a 3.9 GPA and 25 ACT score, it's no surprise to see several Division II, Division III and JUCO schools knocking on his door.
Kam Woods, Pinson Valley, CG: When it's all said and done, Kam Woods is going to have one of the most impressive basketball careers the state of Alabama has ever seen. Woods and his prolific scoring abilities have been a constant in Birmingham at the state tournament and nothing should be different this year. Last week he led his Pinson Valley squad to a huge comeback win over Lee-Montgomery in one of the best games of the year. The Indians were able to capture the win after falling behind early -- Woods' game-high 52 points was definitely a factor in that. Say what you want about Woods, but throughout his entire career he's been able to do two things consistently: score and win.
Duke Miles, Lee-Montgomery, CG: Miles has been one of the loudest performers so far this season, yet he is still one the average basketball fan in the state of Alabama doesn't talk enough about. A versatile guard with value on both ends of the floor, the Montgomery native projects as a valuable two-way player at the next level. Miles has always been known for his defense and speed, but he has emerged as a primary scorer this season after Lee-Montgomery graduated Demond Robinson, who is now at Murray State. North Alabama and Troy have both prioritized Miles at this point in the process.
Tony Toney, Mae Jemison, CG: Tony Toney jumped off the page in June at the inaugural AHSAA Top 100 camp and he hasn't looked back since. The 6-foot-2 guard is one of the main reasons why Mae Jemison is considered one of the top teams in the state. He has been the focal point for opposing teams this season, as many coaches have decided to implement the box-and-1 against him. Nevertheless, Toney has been able to shake defenders and do his damage in the scoring department. He's also a valuable leader for the Jaguars as they look to bring home yet another state championship. Toney has drawn interest from a variety of programs, whether it be high-major of JUCO schools. If he goes the JUCO route, he could eventually come out as a top player and high-major prospect.
Mikey McIntosh, Muscle Shoals, SF: There may not be a more improved player than McIntosh over the course of the past year. A long, bouncy wing man, McIntosh has transitioned from a run-and-jump 4 man to full-time wing prospect. With his versatility and position-less style, it is a little surprising that more programs haven't prioritized the Muscle Shoals standout to this point. With Mark Sears transferring out of state, McIntosh has answered the bell and proved he can lead his team. I think he's a guy that moves the needle at the next level. It will be interesting to watch his recruitment as the season winds down.
