The Steel City Invitational has quickly become the premiere high school basketball event in the state of Alabama. With 16 of the best teams from around the state eager to play one another, they all converged at the beautiful Samford University to see who would "Steel the Show."

Here are the standouts from an impressive Day 1 event...

Brontae Harris steals the show on opening day

On the opening day of the second-annual Steel City Invitational, an unlikely player burst out of the gates and stole the show. 2015 Cullman (AL) guard Brontae Harris connected on his first six three-point attempts in the first quarter to help the Bearcats stay in contention early against Parker. His 25 points led the way for Cullman, as they advanced past Parker 62-46.

"I felt really, really good during warmups. My teammates just kept getting me the ball," Harris said following his big day at Samford University.

To date, Berry College is the lone school showing interest in the 6-foot guard. They watched him play Thursday night, and they are supposed to follow up this weekend in Birmingham. After his impressive performance on Friday, Harris will find much more interest than Berry College, as he boasts a 4.0 GPA.

Bessemer City-J.O. Johnson lives up to the hype

Heading into the tournament, many thought this would be the best game of the day. Well, it's safe to say those people were correct. Johnson used an overtime push to muscle by Bessemer City 75-69.

2016 Johnson (AL) wing Justin Hopkins continues to impress with his consistency, toughness, and motor. Despite having a rough game, the 6-foot-3 wing came away with 16 points. In fact, he was the x-factor for Johnson heading down the stretch, as no one from Bessemer City could keep him out of the lane.

Despite the loss, 2016 Bessemer City (AL) point guard Micah Fuller was the most impressive player on the court. He finished with 20 points to lead all scorers, including three three-pointers. Fuller hit a shot to tie the game at 60 with 30 seconds left in regulation, and it showed he was not afraid to take a big shot. He's  a battle-tested point guard that has taken his team to the Final 4. I expect more great things out of him.

Samford, Murray State, and TCU are the schools currently involved in his recruitment.

Dazon Ingram shows all-around game

There's a lot to like about future Alabama guard Dazon Ingram. The 6-foot-5 athlete filled the stat-sheet on Friday with 23 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists in a big win.

Ingram made the entire game look simple. He rebounded out of his area, got to the rim, and found teammates in transition with beautiful touch-passes. The scary thing is, I believe he is still scraping the surface as a player. He will continue to improve, and with his length and versatility from the perimeter, he could very well have his name called in a future NBA Draft.

Murray State duo shows promise

It probably wasn't the best of games from future Murray State players Cletrell Pope and Justice Green, but both players showed flashes of what they will be in the future, as their Tuscaloosa County squad topped Grissom, 60-45.

Green, a 6-foot-5 wing, had some trouble getting shots to fall, but he still remained positive and a vocal leader for his team. Whether he was on the court or on the bench, he directed his team and showed that he is not afraid to be a leader. Murray State fans will like that.

I saw limited minutes from Pope, but he gave some impressive snapshots of what he will be in the future. He's already a freak-athlete, but his offensive game is coming along. He impressed the crowd with a nice shot-fake, dribble and spin for a layup at the rim. Right now Pope is mainly an athlete, but once he gets to Murray State, he could become a very good basketball player.

Justin Guy, an unsigned senior for Tuscaloosa County, looked very good, too.
