Fall Preview II Team 2 evaluations
Our second fall preview camp is in the books as both players from Georgia and around the southeast met us at Suwannee Sports Academy. As the players competed and showcased their skills, our staff branched out to tell their stories. Here are our evaluations for team 2.
Isaiah Lewis, 2022 G, Alpharetta: Lewis can hang his hat on his defense as his full and halfcourt efforts made ball handlers uncomfortable. As players handled the ball loosely, Lewis would crawl in their lap and make it difficult to play carelessly. 50/50 balls had a tendency to tilt in his favor as he was one of the few players that was willing to sacrifice his body on the floor. In pick and roll situations he excelled as he made proper reads and played off of what he saw. In the paint when things got tight, a nice floater was used to get off a quality look.
Immanuel Lewis 2021 G, Alpharetta: Quick bursts and not playing around with the ball made Immanuel Lewis one of the most productive players of the day. Lewis penetrated and kicked to open teammates that benefitted from his unselfishness. As a shooter, his efficiency made him a popular target amongst his peers. Some nice movement without the ball improved his looks as he churned out several wide open looks.
Ricardo Gonzalez, 2022 G, Lakeside: The sophomore combo guard had a nice array of running and floaters to choose from when cut off. His creativity as a finisher was impressive especially as he proved difficult to block. Even as a ball-handler his shiftiness kept defenders off-balanced. With several speeds to choose from, Gonzalez kept things simple and used different gears to create separation. Some fundamental play and some good footwork would open up his shots from the perimeter.
Reese Gurner, 2022 G, Vestavia Hills: Gurner's patient and steady approach to offense didn't go unnoticed by our coaches. A good blend of flare and smarts was noticeable as he wiggled his way past defenders. Although he was a nice scoring option, Gurner played with his head up and was a more than willing passer. Between his IQ and ability to handle the basketball, Gurner is a solid option for the offense as a combo guard. This lefty showed up in ways that weren't on the box score. This very coachable prospect created positive possessions all camp long.
Lebron Thomas, 2022 G, Lee Central: Lebron Thomas took his game across state lines to show off what makes him a special talent. Defensively is where Thomas showed us a new aspect of his game. Bodying up on drives and diving on the floor were some of the things that separated him from his peers. As a creator, few were better as Thomas totes one of the better skill sets in the gym. The game comes easy for his offensively as a guard with great combo size. When the game got physical he adjusted and played with a great level of aggressiveness. In South Carolina, he scored. Today, he gave us so much more.
Caleb Williams, 2020 G, Buford: Not only did Williams pass the eye test he actually put his overwhelming size to good use. On the defensive end, he flew around getting deflections and blocks off the backboard. His ability to rebound on the defensive end capped off some great possessions as he was one of our camps best competitors. Everything at the rim was met with contact as Williams absorbed, and dished out contact. Williams was one of our more productive two-way players from start to finish.
