Twelve minutes. That’s exactly how long it took for Tre Hansbrough to carry his Buford Wolves team to victory in their third and final game of the Jared Cook Classic against Hillcrest (SC).

The contest started with Hansbrough and Hillcrest guard Tyler Hooker (East Tennessee State signee) going back and forth, each scoring at will. The first half ended with Hansbrough and Hooker tallying 19 points and 16 points respectively, and Buford holding a six point lead.

That’s when the tide changed for Buford, who saw their lead disappear very quickly as Hooker continued his scoring ways as well as finding teammates for easy buckets. All the while, Buford began to become stagnant, with Hansbrough not getting many touches to score the ball. Hillcrest led by seven points after three quarters.

That is when the 12 minute clock started to tick. Hansbrough came out in the fourth quarter looking like the player that we had seen get buckets all weekend long. The most important moment of the game came with under a minute left in the fourth quarter.

With Buford trailing by four points and in need of an answer, Hansbrough took matters into his own hands and converted on a four-point play to tie the game at 77. That tie eventually held up, and an overtime period was needed.

In the overtime, Hansbrough was in full attack mode, getting to the rim and drawing fouls that led to eight free throws. Taylor Mills chipped in with a couple of big overtime buckets, and Buford was helped by a technical foul on the Hillcrest bench. In total, it was too much for Hillcrest to overcome, as Buford came out on top 95-84.

The final stat line for Tre Hansbrough was 50 points, including 8-10 from three-point range and 18-20 from the free throw line. In the 12 minutes that spanned the fourth quarter and overtime, he dropped 29 of his 50 points.
