West Oaks Shines in Win

Orlando, Florida HoopSeen.com was on hand tonight for a match-up between West Oaks Academy and Liberty Christian Academy near Orlando, Florida. In these teams first match-up of the season, the depth of West Oaks proved to be just too much for Liberty Christian. After a tightly contested first half, West Oaks pulled away and won 71-58. Both teams demonstrated a depth of talent that will draw the attention of college coaches and scouts throughout the season.

Here are some of our takeaways from the match-up.

  1. Tacko Fall - Pictured (Liberty Christian) has become a major impact player. To say a 7’5” high school player changes a basketball game isn’t necessarily insightful, but the University of Central Florida commit has made dramatic improvements in just a few months. We watched him compete this Spring and Summer with his travel team E1T1 and were intrigued by his obvious size. Since then Fall has done a lot to improve his conditioning. He played nearly the entire game against West Oaks. He ran the floor, worked hard to gain position in the post and totally changed the game at the rim. His improvement was notable, to say the least.
  2. The mix tape guys love Corey Sanders (West Oaks). He is the perfect guy to garner them clicks on YouTube. Why? The Rutgers commit is flat out explosive, and he didn’t disappoint the cameras Tuesday night with his highlight reel dunks. Sanders is clearly an elite level athlete who will certainly make an impact in the Big 10 in the future.
  3. Don’t sleep on De’Riante Jenkins (West Oaks). The South Carolina native exploded in the second half against Liberty Christian finishing the night with 23 points. College coaches will love the activeness of Jenkins on both sides of the floor. His length also allows him to impact the game in a variety of ways. We were also impressed with his offensive game tonight.
  4. With players coming from all over the world, the Independent School League in Florida is a melting pot of talent. If you want to see a dozen Division 1 prospects in one high school game, just attend an Independent School League game in Florida like the one between West Oaks and Liberty Christian.
  5. Speaking of Mixed Tape Guys. They seem to grow like Oranges in Florida, that is to say they are everywhere. There were at least half a dozen guys filming tonight’s game from the baselines. But there were definitely some YouTube worthy moments.
