Perry ready for new role at Wheeler
There is a specific mindset that certain players possess that gives them an advantage on anyone they play against before they even step on the floor. Wheeler sophomore guard Darius Perry is one of the players with this mentality.
“I have a high basketball IQ, and I can process the game. Most players don’t have that ability," Perry said. "That gives me confidence to go at people. I want to go at guys who have the hype to show that I can play with them even though they may be this or they may be that."
Watching him play, there are no doubts about his IQ. He is a very heady basketball player who has a knack for finding his teammates and also can really shoot it from the perimeter.
Despite all of his abilities, Perry knows one way that the Mount Vernon transfer can make a big difference for Wheeler this year and help take them to a state title.
“I know that we are strong enough. I want to come in and bring effort," Perry said. "Just because the talent is there doesn’t mean you’ll win. I want to bring that effort to help us win."
Perry currently holds an offer from Winthrop as well as interest from a number of schools including North Carolina, George Mason, Boston University and Clemson.
