Bob #Gibbons Tournament of Champions Spotlight: Rongie Gordon
There haven't been many post prospects that have reaped the benefits of the spring quite like 2020 Montgomery (AL) Jeff Davis big man Rongie Gordon. After a successful evaluation period a few weeks ago, he picked up right where he left off at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions.
Gordon, a versatile 6-foot-7 forward, showcased his all-around game throughout the weekend at Suwanee Sports Academy. With the ability to play inside and out, the junior was a tough matchup for many opposing big men. Gordon took advantage of the mismatch problem in a big way, as he scored with his back to the basket and stretched the floor with his shooting ability.
With the rise of the small-ball lineups, and, in particular, a versatile 4 man, Gordon fits in perfectly with the modern college basketball game. Several schools have already prioritized him going into the summer.
"Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Florida are my latest offers," Gordon told HoopSeen.com. "Auburn, Alabama, Georgia Tech, and UAB are the other main schools that are involved right now."
As expected, the in-state schools have been all over the four-star prospect for quite some time now. He also says he has plans to visit Auburn on June 1st, followed by a trip to Alabama on June 3rd. Both the Tigers and Crimson Tide are of interest to Gordon going forward.
"Coach [Bruce] Pearl is my guy. Auburn is really close for me, so I can get there pretty easy. I know a lot about the program and they have told me they want me. I've talked to Coach [Nate] Oats a lot, too. He says that I am the perfect fit for how he wants to run his offense."
Alabama and Auburn are the only visits Gordon has lined up right now, but he said he may try to make some more before the travel season gets rolling again.
