Mercer has a productive recruiting weekend
Mercer isn’t wasting time on the recruiting front. New Bears head coach Greg Gary and staff had a heck of a week on the recruiting front, landing a pair of commitments and a big transfer.
Milton (GA) Cambridge point guard Kamar Robertson no longer sits on top of our best available floor general list for Georgia’s 2020 class. The multiple all-state guard and top performer at our HoopSeen events picked up an offer from the staff last week and didn’t waste any time on accepting the scholarship.
He committed over the weekend.
Robertson gives the Bears a battle-tested guard who is ready for an opportunity to prove himself at the next level.
Robertson wasn’t the only player to pledge to the Bears last week. Miami (FL) Christian guard Diego Rivera also pledged to the program. He averaged 20.3 points, 3.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds a game.
Together, the two will be the new wave of guards for the new coaching regime. Both guards can pump in the points. As we saw with Purdue’s offense, guards have the freedom to score in the style of ball that Gary is used to coaching.
Perhaps the biggest news of the weekend was the addition of Fairfield transfer Neftali Alvarez. The 6-foot-2 guard had a great freshman season at Fairfield, posting 11.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists a game. He could be an All-Conference level player for the Bears.
Later today we will explore the players who we believe the Bears should go after this weekend during the NCAA Live Period.
