Top Performers at 2018 Crossroads of the South Exposure Camp
This past weekend the Crossroads of the South Exposure Camp held its 10th edition at Ridgeland H.S. just to the north of Jackson, MS. This year’s camp had a large turnout with kids from all over the state and a few from Louisiana in attendance. The camp was split into two factions, upperclassmen, juniors and seniors, played on separate courts from the underclassmen, freshmen and sophomores, and there were standouts on both sides. Below we’ll take a look at the top performers from both divisions.
Top upperclassmen performers
Jariyon Wilkins, 6’5”, WF
Class of2019
Biloxi (MS) H.S.
In my estimate, he had the best performance of anyone on the upperclassmen side of play. A long wiry wing, he played with energy, was active on the glass, showed he’s a solid ball-handler; put the ball on the floor and attacked the rim strongly, with a number of high-lite dunks among his finishes.
Jarron Wilkins, 6’5”, WF
Class of2019
Biloxi (MS) H.S.
Jariyon’s twin brother had a very strong day of his own, performing very well. Other than the fact that Jariyon had just a little more burst to his game Saturday these two are carbon copies on the floor and you can’t tell them apart, in face, stature or game.
Caleb McGill, 6’5", PF
Class of 2020
Petal (MS) H.S.
This broad-shouldered 4/3 teamed with Jariyon Wilkins to form a formidable duo, he showed strength around the rim with power finishes, showed he’s athletic rising up for a few nice slams, rebounded the ball and ran the floor, also showed passing skills that I’d not really seen before with a number of pinpoint passes to cutters for nice finishes.
Trelan Smith, 6’4”, WG
Class of 2020
Petal (MS) H.S.
A solidly built, wiry wing, he was active all day despite playing in a football game the night before, showed a solid handle, attacked the rim strongly off the dribble, got up and down the floor and shot the ball decently. I can see the added bulk that playing football has helped put on him, but he still moves very well around the hardwood court.
Tredavis Thompson, 6’2, CG
Class of 2019
Raymond (MS) H.S.
Quick combo guard who had a strong performance, had a good day handling the ball, used his quickness to attack the rim and score the ball but also shared the rock, his jumper was on also as he hit a number of jumpers with solid range on the shots.
Top upperclassmen performers
Joeseph Dupree, 6’5, PF
Class of 2021
Jackson (MS) Murrah H.S.
A wide-bodied forward, Joe had himself quite a day, he handled the ball, was very aggressive with his play, shot the ball at a high level out to three point range made some nice passes to teammates and was active on the glass. A very strong performance.
Devin Ree, 6’5”, WF
Class of 2022
Terry (MS) H.S.
A long-armed thin rangy frontcourt prospect, Ree looks better every time I see him. He is a good ballhandler and showed a crossover and the ability to change direction, shot the ball very well showing range out past the three point line, shared the ball with some nice passes and was active, rebounded the ball, ran the floor and competed hard.
Twasley Wilson Jr., 5’11”, CG
Class of 2022
Port Allen (LA) H.S.
A solidly built athletic combo guard, I just saw Wilson keep getting buckets, he uses his solid build around the hoop well, showed a burst of speed in the open floor and when getting to the rim, and as I said at the start he just has a nose for putting the ball into the buckets.
Rashad Bolden, 5’11”, PG
Class of 2021
Madison (MS) St Andrews Episcopal School
Already one of the more highly regarded underclassman in the state, Bolden was only at camp for the drill portion, and he would have played on the upperclassman side if he had stayed for games. Despite not playing in any camp games he set himself apart in the drills with his high skill set and his ability to really shoot the ball.
