Ewing gets his anchor in Malcolm Wilson

Early this morning, the Georgetown Hoyas got a commitment from one of the best defensive bigs to play at a HoopSeen event this season. Having narrowed his list down to Clemson, Georgetown, and Rice, Malcolm Wilson deemed Patrick Ewing as the coach that gets the nod. It appeared to be the perfect match on paper as Wilson will gain experience from a NBA Hall of Famer that anchored his own fair share of defenses. Wilson will also get a good dose of academics, too.

"The biggest factors in choosing Georgetown were the great academic and athletic opportunities. I felt very comfortable with the coaching staff and other supporting roles to ensure I have a successful time at Georgetown."

Ewing and company must be thrilled at the opportunity to mold a prospect that takes pride in rim protection and rebounding. The Hoyas should eventually see a spike in their blocks and deflections numbers due to Wilson's length and anticipation. Wilson doesn't take himself off the floor with unnecessary fouls because he understands defensive timing. His positioning is often excellent as he allows his opponent to release the ball before eventually sending it back to the sender. Being quick off the floor is a plus, thus allowing him to stay in the mix when multiple challenges are required. Wilson will benefit tremendously from the tutelage a former leaguer that had over 2,800 blocked shots.

There's some work to do in the weight room but most high major talents tend to fill out quicker than others. As he gets stronger expect his rebounding to increase over time. Length, positioning, and effort have carried him so far but he will benefit from more strength as he transitions to the Big East. His offensive game needs some polishing as it consists mostly of dump offs and paint touches. His offensive development shouldn't prove too difficult as he already has the fluidity and coordination needed to churn out a few moves from the blocks and elbows. Even if his development is slower on the other end, Wilsons knack for defense will always keep him involved. This is a sneaky good get for the Hoyas as the land a high ceiling prospect that currently has a high major skill. This commitment works well for both parties as the Hoyas will graduate Jessie Govan, their 6-10 leader in blocks from a year ago. This could possibly open put Wilson in a position to compete for minutes early in his career and learn on the fly. This marks a quality piece for Ewing as they shift focus to other areas of need.

Wilson has the talent and upside to make us all look back and question his ranking of a 3-star prospect.
