Rice adds skilled big man in Max Fiedler
Max Fiedler, a 6-9 Team MOAM center, has ended his recruitment with a late Sunday afternoon commitment to Rice University.
"I just thought it was the perfect fit for me, athletically and academically," Fiedler said. "I'm just kind of looking forward to joining a program that's kind of on the rise. It looks like there's a bright future ahead and I'm looking forward to being a part of that."
Furman, West Point and William and Mary were the other programs in the running for the big man's services before eventually choosing Rice as his next destination. Rice assistant coach Chris Kreider made contact with Fiedler in July and eventually convinced him to become an Owl.
"I was talking mostly to coach Krieder. He was the one recruiting me. But I really, really liked all the coaches I met on my visit," Fiedler said.
I was impressed with Fiedler during the April period but it was what I saw in July that increased his value. Team MOAM head coach Therion Joseph informed me that Max had lost 10+ pounds, adding some explosiveness with the loss of weight. That work for that short time should carry over well to the next level. When asked what he brings to the table, Fiedler seemed ready to add value however the staff saw fit.
"I think just being a hard worker. I'll do kind of whatever they need me to do. whether that's shoot the 3, rebound. Just play defense. Whatever's asked on me," Fiedler said.
