17 AND UNDER CHAMPIONSHIP

The Atlanta Celtics(Reco) were determined not to let a scrappy and skilled South Fulton Lions team defeat them twice. The first game was decided by 2 points as the South Fulton Lions escaped with a narrow victory after a Jarred Godfrey jumper sent the game into overtime. Eyeing a rematch in the championship round, the Celtics held a strong lead throughout the majority of the game in what ended as a 73-44 victory. 

Brenden Tucker had 22 points including 2 made threes, but it was his ability to get to the rim and free throw line that made his a difference maker. Kamar Robertson led the Celtics in scoring through many of their Georgia Cup games and he did not disappoint in the championship. His 10 points came at a time in with the Lions were beginning to shrink the gap, and his points helped further increase the lead in the first half.

Zach Morgan of the South Fulton Lions was a handful all tournament, throwing down a series of dunks that caused everyone to stop and pay attention. His 10 points was in true grind it out fashion, as the 6'7 forward battled for offensive rebounds and dump-offs. Eventually the Celtics used their twin towers to neturalize his play as forwards Rodney Howard and Armani Harris controlled the glass and chipped in with 10 points a piece. - Tai Young

16 AND UNDER CHAMPIONSHIP

Scrappiness. That was going to be the key to the winners of the 16 and under championship. Who had more of it? Both the Atlanta Kings and Reach Higher Kings have plenty of it and they used their allotment to reach the final game of the age group on Sunday.

In the end, the Atlanta Kings had just enough to claim the championship 55-41.

Guard Brandon Gunn lead the Atlanta Kings with 18 points, capping off a strong weekend. He reminded us of Brunswick/Scott’s All-Stars guard Marcus Scott. Scott signed with the Air Force and was a multi All-Tournament selection at past Georgia Cups.

Tae Searcy scored 12 while Will Taylor scored nine, hitting three three-pointers.

Brandon Sherer scored 11 to lead the Reach Higher Kings. Nick Zabetakis, Jack Beck and Namiah Howard each scored eight. scored eight. - Justin Young

15 AND UNDER CHAMPIONSHIP

After a chippy first quarter, both teams settled down into their respective styles of play. Flame Elite showed a half court 1-2-2 defense that forced the Stars to spread the floor. Proving to work well for Flame Elite, the Stars would also show a little 1-2-2. At that point, both teams struggled to put the ball in the basket, scoring mostly off of free throws and fast breaks.

The score at the half would be 19 to 16 with the Stars up thanks to eight first half points by Deontá Bridges. Kendric Lyles came out of the half inspired, hitting back-to-back threes and fueling a 12-2 Flame Elite run. Stars big man Tyree West came alive at that point, scoring six straight. Flame Elite would still maintain a ten point lead when the final quarter of play began.

The fourth quarter was the Zavious Williams show. Williams got to the cup with ease putting up ten of his 15 points in the fourth. JJ Hawkins was an absolute monster on the boards, snagging double digit rebounds to go with his 13 points. Flame Elite would get their largest lead of the game up to 19. Lyles finished with 11 points. Bridges put up 12 for the Stars while West ended up with 13. - Bre Singleton
