North Alabama lands pledge from 2018 CG Jamari Blackmon
2018 Hoover (AL) combo guard Jamari Blackmon was one of the most impressive players in Alabama's 2018 class this season, as he led the Buccaneers to an Elite Eight appearance in 7A with his high-octane scoring.
Throughout the course of the season, the 6-foot scorer entertained plenty of college interest after only holding scholarship offers from Alabama A&M and UA-Huntsville following the summer. One of those schools that showed high interest was North Alabama, and Blackmon announced his pledge to the future Atlantic Sun program on Monday afternoon.
"North Alabama just felt like home to me," Blackmon told HoopSeen.com following his commitment. "The coaches were very caring and are genuinely good people. The school is beautiful, and the team is up-and-coming. I want to help start something special there and build a tradition."
A 7A All-State performer, Blackmon will give the Lions another quality piece as the program transitions from Division II to Division I. He brings an impressive knack for scoring the ball to the table. With his shooting and ability to score in bunches behind the arc, along with his toughness and ability to finish at the rim, Blackmon will be a tough assignment in the A-Sun Conference.
Prior to his commitment, Blackmon also took an official visit to Arkansas-Little Rock, who had extended an offer. UAB, South Alabama, Alabama State, USC Upstate, and Tennessee Tech had all shown interest, too.
Blackmon joins another strong recruiting class for head coach Bobby Champagne and the Lions. UNA signed Sean Elmore and Andrew Morrissey and JUCO standout Cameron Diggs in November.
