Mercer adds important shooter with Thomas
Mercer spent a good portion of July watching Eagle’s Landing shooting guard Brandon Thomas. The 6-foot-3 shot-maker enjoyed a stellar summer with AC Georgia and you could be sure Mercer head coach Bob Hoffman was on the sidelines watching.
Thomas visited the Macon school over the weekend and ended his recruitment on Tuesday.
"After talking with my parents and several coaches we came to the decision to go to Mercer to stay close to home as well as try to rebuild the program down there,” Thomas said. “They a losing a lot of players next year. Also (I want) to continue my education and profession to become a physical therapist.”
The No. 22 ranked player in Georgia’s 2018 class gives the Bears a major threat on the perimeter as a shot-maker. That’s the value he brings to the table for Hoffman and staff.
“He sees me as a good shooter and scorer that can space out the floor and be able to know down shots and make plays,” Thomas said.
Thomas wasn’t the only player to commit to Mercer this week. DJ Peavy, a point guard from Houston, Texas, was on campus over the weekend and also decided Mercer was the right place. They join Florida guard Daniel Love and Alabama win CJ Williamson in the 2018 recruiting class.
