Bryant chooses Gardner-Webb
Gardner-Webb made a splash over the holiday weekend by landing a commitment from 2018 Dorman (SC) big man Gabe Bryant. The high-energy power forward gave Tim Craft and the Bulldogs his pledge following an official visit to campus.
"Gardner Webb was on me from day one," Bryant told HoopSeen.com of his reasoning to choose the Bulldogs. "From our first conversation I knew I was their number one guy in the post."
Craft and his staff did an outstanding job recruiting Bryant and developing a positive relationship early. In the end, that relationship was a big reason for his commitment.
"The coaching staff has been awesome throughout the process. I know they care about my success as a student-athlete."
At 6-foot-8, Bryant made his mark with the Atlanta All-Stars throughout the travel season. The big man is fearless in the post and loves playing with contact - something a lot of big men shy away from. Bryant was one of the most efficient rebounders we saw all summer and his offense is coming around, too. He will have an opportunity to play early and often once he steps foot on campus.
"The Big South is a competitive conference and I think I can come in and contribute early in my four years at Gardner-Webb," Bryant explained.
Bryant chose the Bulldogs over scholarship offers from Appalachian State, Lipscomb, Mercer, and Presbyterian.
Bryant joins shooting guard Jaylen Alston in Gardner-Webb's current 2018 recruiting class.
