Elementary School & Middle School standouts shine at Georgia Cup III

There were a host of big games this weekend at the Georgia Cup with younger players making a statement.

ISO-Justin?

14U Walton Flames’ Justin Bogard (pictured) was quite possibly the best player at the Cup. Joe Johnson of the Utah Jazz’s cousin, Bogard scored the ball at will just like his NBA bloodline. The 6-foot forward got buckets from all over the floor, averaging upwards of 25 points per game this weekend capped by a 39-point barrage in the Flames’ 72-64 Orange Division championship over the Georgia Achievers. Bogard did whatever he wanted with his athleticism and lefty touch. He is set to attend Grayson next year.

Runnin Rebels ride White

The 13U Runnin Rebels saw Derrick White carry them to the Orange Division championship. White hit a game-winning layup with seconds left to propel the Rebels to a 46-45 victory to hoist the Cup. White was unstoppable, pouring in 34 points in the championship. He was too strong getting to the hoop all weekend. White says he is in the Tucker High School district.

Too Big

Gabriel Omoregie wrecked 12U Triple Double in the championship game, powering D-Elite to a 52-37 victory.  Triple Double had no answer for the force on the low block. Omoregie used his size to his advantage and was the recipient of endless high-low looks resulting in a 32-point effort. He took his time and finished everything in the paint.

Donsha wish you could guard me?

Jefferson High School’s Donsha Gaither went out with a bang on Sunday morning, pumping in 39 points for the 16U Gametime Ballers in a loss. The 2020 guard got buckets and used his length (6-foot-3) and explosiveness to get by defenders. Coming off of a 4-21 season, Gaither says to keep an eye on the Dragons over the next three years now that he and the rest of his freshman class are a year older and new head coach Kevin Morris is in the mix.
