NPS Player Spotlight: Tye Fagan
Tye Fagan and his Upson Lee teammates have been busy this spring. They’ve been winning. In fact, they’ve been winning for nearly a year straight.
Chalking up victories will take up your time. So does the work that goes into the process of winning.
And then there’s the parades.
“We’ve had two, actually,” Fagan said with a laugh.
Thomaston, GA
That’s what happens when you win a state title and go 32-0 on the year. The city of Thomaston, Georgia (population 9,081) is celebrating the Upson Lee team well. And Fagan has been a big part of the newly written history. Fagan was an all-state performer for the Knights.
Now he and his teammates are trying to continue the same kind of success on the travel circuit. He anchors the Middle Georgia Supersonics and he’s ready for the coming weeks for the NCAA Live Period.
“It is just a different level of competition. You have to stay hungry and keep working for next year,” Fagan said.
A year ago, Fagan was still working on a skill set that would prepare him for the year he just had. Some self-reflection helped put his game on track for success.
“I realized I had to get stronger, faster and I had to get better with my footwork,” Fagan said. “It ain’t my thing to just go in there and dunk on someone. I prefer to be smooth. If I need to rely on my jumper, I’ll rely on my jumper. I’m probably at my best when I’m getting to the basket though.”
To date, two schools have offered scholarships - Middle Tennessee State and Georgia. The hometown Bulldogs are the most recent, tendering a free ride within the last month.
“It feels good that they are showing love. They stay in touch with me and hit me up with letters just letting me know they are thinking about me,” Fagan said.
He took in a game in Athens when UGA played LSU on Feb. 25.
“I’m going to go back up there (soon),” Fagan said.
With MTSU, being first in line could help in the long run.
“It means a lot that they were the first to believe in me and the first to offer. That means a lot. They’re pretty high (on my list),” Fagan said.
Tennessee Tech and Georgia Tech are also in the picture. Fagan said the Yellow Jackets are “in touch with me the most that hasn’t offered me yet.”
He’ll be back at Suwanee Sports Academy for the Atlanta Jam on April 28-30 during the NCAA Live Period.
