Georgia Elite Preview team evals: Team 1
Our annual Elite Preview took place on Saturday at Kell High School and the camp was filled with talent from the 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes. Our staff of coaches and evaluators collectively broke down each player in recaps. We begin our team by team evaluations from the camp today.
Cole Guenther - One of the best shooters in the camp, the 6-foot-7 forward stuck to his strengths and did what he does best. As quick guards drove to the basket, they found him on the wing for open shots and Guenther converted. He used his length to be effective on the glass as rebounder. As he gets stronger and more physical, he should improve as a defender inside and out. Added strength will also help his low post scoring, too.
A good rebounder with a good face up game, the 6-foot-7 forward found his spots to shine in the camp setting. The 6-foot-7 forward could improve as a low-post scorer and bring a little more intensity on the defensive end of the floor. That said, he’s a tough guard because of his ability to knock down shots as a face-up four man.
The Wesleyan guard had good camp and had great spurts on both ends of the floor. He was at his best in transition because of his speed and ability to handle the ball. His defense and physicality must improve.
This was the first time our staff had a chance to see the young and promising big man in action. The theme of the day was promise of the next wave of talent in Georgia and Meka will be a good one to chart moving forward. He’s a treat athlete with explosive jumping ability. He’s young and raw and picks and chooses when he rebounds but development is coming. We are keeping a close watch on Meka moving forward. Tons of intrigue here.
The Georgia Freshman of the Year was outstanding at camp and earned high praise from all of the coaches and evaluators on Saturday. He was one of the top performers thanks to his high motor and aggressive play on both sides of the ball. He did just about everything on the stage’s biggest individual stage.
If you are looking for a guy to take off with the mid-level schools this spring on the travel circuit, he’s your guy. Thomas was one of the best shooters in the camp off the catch. His midrange game was strong, too. Developing the ability to create his own shot will make him an even more dangerous weapon on the offensive end of the floor. We featured him in our top performers from the camp HERE.
If there was anyone in the camp who used the stage to propel himself into the conversation, it was Wyatt. He saw the opportunity to shine as the spring evaluation period approaches and he took it. Wyatt was the camp’s most dynamic high-flyer. Adding consistency to his fundamental decisions will help improve his overall game as a two-way play. Wyatt was one of our top overall performers from the weekend.
