Alabama Elite Preview: Team 1 Evaluations

We had a fantastic day of action at the Alabama Elite Preview on Saturday. During drills, game-play, and other sessions, our coaches and staff were closely evaluating each player.

Here is what our coaches and staff had to say about Team 1:

Xavier Williams, 2018 PF, Parker: Williams was voted as the most impressive player in camp by our coaches and staff. View his evaluation here.

Brant Bragwell, 2019 PG, Belgreen: Bagwell did a terrific job of competing and holding his own from start to finish on Saturday. The 5-foot-9 point guard did a good job of controlling the game and making the correct play consistently. Bagwell can also shoot the basketball at an efficient rate from the perimeter, distancing himself as one of the top specialists in camp.

Jakorrian Edwards, 2018 SF, Hale County: Edwards had one of the best motors in camp and was an ultra-competitor. He was named to our top performers list!

Eric Butler, 2020 CG, Smiths Station: Butler (pictured above) put together a solid freshman season in one of the toughest areas in 7A, as Smiths Station competes with Auburn and Central-Phenix City. The 6-foot-2 guard has the ability to play both guard spots effectively and he displayed both on Saturday. Butler has a high IQ and doesn’t force anything like many young players are prone to doing. He utilized his explosive and quickness to get in the lane and make plays at the rim, while also creating opportunities for teammates. He’s a prospect to watch in Alabama’s loaded 2020 class.

Chase Fiddler, 2018 SG, Bob Jones: Fiddler had a solid day of work and was voted as one of the top players in camp. See what the coaches had to say about him here.

Trey Bonham, 2020 PG, UMS-Wright: Bonham is another freshman that plays well beyond his years. The 5-foot-10 guard has matured physically since the summer and it has made a difference in his play. He can now take bumps and more physical play on the perimeter. Bonham has great quickness and handles the ball extremely well. He did a nice job of changing speeds, leading to some pull-up jumpers from 15 feet.

Sam Youngblood, 2020 SG, McAdory: Youngblood was literally all over the floor on Saturday. The 6-foot-2 freshman does a little bit of everything, whether it be scoring, rebounding, or defending. Youngblood has the ability to shoot the ball very well from the perimeter, but at the Elite Preview, he showcased his knack for finding the basketball on the offensive glass. He got several easy buckets off offensive rebounds. Youngblood made quality decisions with the basketball throughout the day and put his team in a position to win.

Eddie Smith, Jr., 2019 CG, Clay-Chalkville: Smith, Jr. proved to be a constant threat each time he stepped on the floor with his quickness and scoring ability. The sophomore kept the defense honest with his ability to get to the rim and shoot it from outside. Playing with a point to prove, Smith displayed a high motor throughout the day. He handled the ball well and was most effective when attacking the rim.
