Peachtree Ridge was standing room only and the people came to see Zion Williamson in action. What they got, however, was a preview of a potential state champion in Newton High School and a highly entertaining show from Isaiah Miller. 

Newton won the heavyweight fight 96-75. It wasn’t much of a battle. When the Newton trail started to move downhill, there wasn’t anything Spartanburg Day could really do. 

Miller, one of the best unsigned seniors in Georgia’s deep 2017 class, put on a show. Miller finished with 29 points and played above the rim throughout the contest. He played much bigger than his 6-foot frame. Miller grabbed eight big rebounds in the win, too. 

He had help from his backcourt mates, too. Super sophomore Ashton Hagans finished with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists in the game. He was the most complete player on the floor in the contest. 

The only thing that could slow down JD Notae was a busted tooth. As in, “someone please find the ivory on the floor” busted tooth. Notae had to leave the floor to receive medical attention but promptly returned to sink home five quick points. He’s a very good pick-up for Jacksonville University, and should be an all-conference level player. Notae finished with 24 points in the game. 

Newton is a guard-heavy squad that can beat teams with constant pressure. The Rams have not lost a game this season and average 80 points a contest. 

Williamson didn’t lay down quietly. The nation’s most viral player finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds in the game. He showed flashes of why entertainers like Drake are wearing his jersey. 

But this game was all about Newton. They entertained. They pushed. They stole the show. And the state was watching closely.
