The 2018 class has been spoken on already too much about its lacking punch of star power and depth across the board. However, that isn’t to say that it doesn’t have its fair share of quality talent that can be pursued by some of the better, more prominently known college programs. On the opening night of the Gonzaga DC Classic, it was Moses Brown that showed progressions, in more than just one way, that continues to track as a five-star big man out of the 2018 class.

During my first ever evaluation of Brown, the New Yorker was just touching 7-foot last spring where his hands, activity on the glass, and mobile abilities, despite the fact that he was so young but so long, was more than intriuging. On Friday, the Archbishop Molloy center has grown at least two more inches as he stands near 7-foot-2, yet his willingness to fight down low for the rebound and loose ball attempt, to go along with his rim running nature, displayed immense upside in the junior 5-man, a kid that is evolving from a prospect and into a ballplayer.

A well-spoken young man off the floor with a world of abilities on it, Brown didn’t start off his first contest in DC on a high note as he was forcing the issue a bit out of the high post setting and struggled to score through contact at the basket. As his game wore on, the top-25 big man’s stat line looked better and better as he changed practically every shot in the lane due to the sheer size of him, made for impressive putback and finishes, scores that came with either hand, and allotted the same energy to the final whistle that he had begun the game with.

Finishing the night in style with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and seven blocks in his team’s win, Brown spoke some on his recruitment. “It’s been good,” he said. “Everybody has just been all over me since the school year began.”

With an assistant coach from Maryland in attendance, Brown gave insight on who has ramped up their attention with him. “Cal, Maryland definitely texts and calls me every day, Florida, Kansas, Louisville, and Arizona,” the five-star big man stated with who he speaks the most often with.

After his dominating performance on Friday evening and with the dearth of upper shelf big man available in his 2018 class, expect for the recruitment of Moses Brown to only heat up further as the colder months descend upon the upper east coast.
