The annual Holiday Hoopsgiving event tips off on Friday at Holy Innocents’ in Atlanta and many believe it is one of the top five events in the country when it comes to high school hoops. We’ll have coverage on Friday and Saturday. We take a look at the three biggest things we can’t wait to see. 

1. Collin Sexton vs. Trevon Duval 

This is the match-up everyone wants to see. Everyone. And by everyone, we mean the grassroots basketball nation. 

The guards are the top two at their respective positions and rarely, if ever, square off against each other. The only time the two played against each other was at USA Basketball in October. This match-up will be in front of a packed house and laced with anticipation. 

Both play with extreme levels of entertainment and both can dominate a game with their aggressive play from wing to rim. This should be a true spectacle of elite guard play and the best pairings of guards we will see all high school season long. 

It doesn’t get any better than this. 

2. Norcross vs Greenforest 

A good number of Americans will spend Friday shopping for holiday gifts for family and friends. Tis the season. For the hoop heads in your circle, just buy a ticket for this one. With two national top 25 teams locking horns in November, this should be an absolute battle of size and toughness on the hardwood. 

The two teams played last year at Holiday Hoopsgiving and Greenforest won big 77-48. 

The match-ups are terrific throughout and we’re looking at least a half dozen high-major players in it. 

3. Liberty County’s guards vs Newton’s guards

Liberty County won a state championship last year and went 28-1 and haven’t lost a game in nearly a year. Liberty County has two of the best guards in Georgia in Davion Mitchell and Will Richardson. Mitchell, an Auburn signee, is one of the most exciting players in the nation, and Richardson is one of the most promising juniors in the Southeast’s 2018 class. 

Newton is home to one of the top sophomores in the nation in point guard Ashton Hagans, a powerfully built and hard-playing floor general. He’s joined by Jacksonville bound guard JD Notae, high-flying Isaiah Miller and a host of other explosive players in the rotation. Newton was three possessions away from Georgia’s biggest state championship game. 

If you like breakneck basketball with plenty of action above the rim and scoring on the wing, pull up a chair. Your eyes will get a work out with this one.
