One of the top available shooting guard prospects left on the board, things came to a close quickly for Jay Jay Chandler. A 6-foot-4 guard that can play multiple spots out on the perimeter, the Cinco Ranch High guard made it official by committing to Texas A&M.

After losing Deshawn Corprew earlier this fall as the former top-125 guard was unable to gain NCAA eligibility, the need for someone that can come in next year and provide scoring, playmaking, and defense in the backcourt was evidently clear for the Aggies. With Chandler, the SEC bunch found that and much more.

Entertaining such others as Western Kentucky, Georgia and Georgia Tech, Chandler is an excellent, in-state addition for Billy Kennedy’s program. While he is in between guard spots at the current moment, the long and graceful athlete is an excellent mid-range scorer and someone that can be used on and off the ball without seeing his efficiency drop. His feel for the game is there which would enable for Chandler to be used as a facilitator and with his length and quickness, the top-125 recruit can be someone that can guard and contain all three positions on the perimeter.

Becoming the third in-state commitment to Texas A&M this fall, Chandler gave insight on his college selection. “I just felt like it was the best situation for me and my family. The coaching staff made it feel like it’s a family,” the Lone Star State native stated. “I have been having a close relationship with them since the eighth grade so that shows that they’ve believed in me since a young age. It is close to home so it’s always good to stay local and at a good program.”

The fourth commitment in the 2017 class for the Aggies, Chandler joins fellow in-state signees Savion Flagg and TJ Starks, along with big man Isiah Jasey, cementing Texas A&M’s class as one of the best in the SEC and a top-25 group nationally this fall.
