Cincinnati snatches Keith Williams
While there has been some talk about the lacking crop of talent being produced from the New York City metro area, it seems that things have improved some thanks to members of the 2017 class. Thanks to the talent at Bishop Loughlin High, the upward trajectory should continue, especially because of 6-foot-5 wing Keith Williams. Today, the versatile and long bodied senior end his recruitment by committing to Cincinnati.
Due to his upbringing and playing against some of the top ranked prospects that call the New York-New Jersey region their home, Williams is a tough swingman that can play either spot off of the ball in the backcourt. While he does have his shortcomings as he needs to better his handles in fending off ball pressure presented to him, the New York native is one that can make shots from off of the perimeter but has added explosiveness at the basket on the dunk attempt.
While others such as Oklahoma State and Dayton remained heavily involved for the Bishop Loughlin star, what Cincinnati fans should expect from the now committed recruit is someone that can contribute on both ends of the floor. He has filled out nicely over the past calendar year where he has the strength in defending bigger opponents near the basket, yet exhibits fine length in disrupting the passing lanes on the perimeter.
Running with the New Heights travel program this past summer on the UAA circuit, Williams was able to show off an improved scoring package where he chipped in with 15 points in any given contest, aided by his above 40-percent shooting from beyond the arc. Throw in the fact that the New Yorker can rebound the ball at a high rate on the defensive end of the floor and can guard various spots and fans in Cincinnati should be more than excited in landing the talented Williams.
The third commitment in the 2017 class for the Bearcats, Williams joins Trevon Moore in the backcourt, a prolific shooter of the ball and someone that exudes similar toughness to the Loughlin star. Down low is Eliel Nsoseme, a long bodied and hard playing center that protects his team’s basket and rebounds the ball at a high rate.
