JP Moorman fits the bill for Temple
The end has come for JP Moorman and in one, quick swoop, Temple has added a super versatile and ultra-competitive forward out of North Carolina. A 6-foot-6 senior that can play either forward position depending on the lineup thrown out onto the playing floor, the Owls have gained ahold of an immediate energy giver and a piece in the frontcourt that will contribute one way or another next year.
Beating out the likes of Cincinnati, UNCW, Georgia Tech, and Richmond for Moorman’s commitment, the product of the winning Greensboro Day program is a piece that would fit in seamlessly regardless of the place of his choosing. Vastly improving his physique in recent years where the Carolina native has shed much of the excess baby fat and exchanged it for muscle mass, Moorman’s mantra all along has been in his willingness to max out what he has been given.
While he hasn’t already received the proper dues that he has deserved playing on a loaded Team CP3 team this past summer alongside top ranked big man Wendell Carter, Moorman is more about doing the miscellaneous and when asked to step up, doing so without an issue. A stat sheet filler on the Nike EYBL circuit, in just 20 minutes of action, the future Owl averaged nearly 10 points off of 50-percent shooting from the field, over five rebounds, and nearly two assists and a steal per contest.
Needing to find the proper replacements for Daniel Dingle and Mark Williams in the frontcourt next year, the newest Temple commit gave insight on why he chose the AAC program. “It felt like a brotherhood that I wanted to be a part of,” Moorman stated. “It’s a blue collar environment right in the middle of north Philly and I really like the guys coming in with me.”
It is that blue-collar mentality that Moorman has always abided by but the coaching staff did its own part in making him feel wanted. “Coach (Fran Dunphy) and his staff genuinely showed me what I was looking for,” the 6-foot-6 forward noted. “Coach Dunphy is pretty similar to my high school coach: a straight forward and to the point kind of guy and I loved that.”
The second commitment in the 2017 class for the Temple Owls, Moorman joins Nate Pierre-Louis, a high level scorer in the backcourt, in creating a sturdy duo early on. Expect for the program out of Philadelphia to remain on the hunt for one or two more commitments as they pursue further the likes of Dre Perry and Justyn Hamilton in the frontcourt along with David Beatty and Greg Elliott out on the perimeter.
