Brion Whitley ops to become a Seahawk
The work that Kevin Keatts and his staff have done since taking over the UNC-Wilmington men’s basketball program three years ago is commendable, at the very least. On Monday, the CAA bunch took another step forward to furthering the foundation that the program has been built upon in landing the services of 6-foot-5 wing Brion Whitley.
Heading into July with no offers in hand, the Riverview High product went bonkers all throughout the month. He displayed a vastly improved perimeter jumper while remaining his usual, active and versatile self. The D3 MOAM star brings a bulldog mentality to the playing floor and a college ready physique that he uses nicely in defending various spots on the perimeter and in scoring the ball through the bigger bodies at the basket.
Originally slated to visit UTC and Wofford in the coming weeks, Whitley’s first official visit, a trip that took him to Wilmington this past weekend, was enough for the Sunshine State native to commit following his 48-hour excursion up north.
A top-30 ranked prospect from the state of Florida, Whitley becomes the first commitment for the Seahawks. UNCW is not done yet though as Keatts and his staff has made the final cuts for some of their top prospects as they remain involved for the likes of JP Moorman, Paul Atkinson, and Evan Cole.
