David Nickelberry discusses his final four
David Nickelberry, a 6-foot-7 point-wing type that is blessed with unbelievable vision and passing skills, took the next step towards a college commitment on Tuesday. After sifting through the process, the Windermere Prep wing has narrowed his list to a group of four.
Finishing out his summer with the Each 1 Teach 1 program on the Nike EYBL circuit, the Sunshine State product decompressed some and is now down four programs that he will choose from to attend college. Memphis, USC, Vanderbilt, and Georgia each made the cut for the prospect out of Florida.
Graced with great size out top and improved athleticism at the basket, where Nickelberry shines the greatest is when he is placed onto the ball. The lefty has an unbelievable feel for the game and the passing abilities on top of it all that make him a giant, elite play maker that can pick apart any type of defense. While his 15-foot and out jumper remains a work in progress, Nickelberry has rounded out other portions of his game that should enable for matchup issues all across the floor.
Down to a final four, Nickelberry gave insight on each of the programs that make up his cut list:
Memphis
“It is a place where I could be very successful and get better as a player, I believe. They could also progress me into the player that I want to be. Coach Tubby Smith is the type of coach I want to be around. He is a very family oriented person and that is what I love about him and the staff.”
USC
“They are a great program. I am from California. That is my home town and Coach (Chris) Capko and I have a great relationship. I have known him for three years now so that could possibly be a good fit.”
Vanderbilt
“It is an amazing school and the coaching staff and I believe I could develop into the player that I want to be. The academics there are incredible and earning a degree there would be an honor.”
Georgia
“It is another great family oriented place. The coaches are very excited about me and they all believe I can do big things there.”
Expect for Nickelberry to set up visits in the coming weeks, though, only one has been planned to date as the Windermere Prep star will head to Memphis on September 16, this coming in the official variety. A high-level play maker that makes others better, Nickelberry would be a fine addition to any of the programs of his choosing.
