Gravett says yes to Gardner-Webb
Just before the coaching staff from Gardner-Webb was to take the floor for a game against Jacksonville, Alexander combo guard Hassani Gravett made an important call and committed to the Big South school on Saturday.
The 6-foot-2 scoring point guard took an official visit to the Boiling Springs, N.C. school in October and took some time to think through his decision. In the end, G-W was the perfect situation, he said.
"When I took the official visit there, I just had the feeling that I liked the place," Gravett said. "I already liked the coaching staff a lot. The coaches just felt like family. The players are young and you can build with that. I can see myself playing with those guys and having success and getting to the tournament."
Gravett, the No. 18 ranked senior in Georgia, is an important recruit for new Gardner-Webb head coach Tim Craft. He brings scoring, defense and point guard skills to the roster.
"They were telling me they needed a guy that was ready to get minutes. I know I'm going to have to work for that when I get there," Gravett said. "But I really felt like I could come in and help them out in order to get the job done."
Gravett knows his biggest strength is giving the team a threat on the wing right out of the gate.
"He sees me as a great shooter that can open it up for the bigs they have - Jerome Hill and Tyrone Nelson. People clamp down on them in the post and they wanted someone to shoot it when they kick it out. They feel like I can open the floor up for them."
