Top prospects at the CP3 Rising Stars camp, Part III
The CP3 Rising Stars camp was a terrific stage for us to get a peek at the class of 2020. The camp brought in players from all corners of the country and served as a starting point for the freshmen class to start their high school careers off. We look back at the top overall prospects from the event.
Dudley Blackwell, 6-6, Miramar, FL: Blackwell went to work as a slashing athlete in the camp setting. Guys with his physical and athletic traits tend to shine in such platforms. The up and down style allowed Blackwell to attack the rim with little resistance and flash. Blackwell played very well above the rim throughout the event. With further skill development, the young Floridian will be one of the more intriguing players to watch in the class of 2020.
Xavier Foster, 6-8, Oskaloosa, IA: Put his name on your watch list. The long and rangy 6-foot-8 forward was one of the best long-term prospects in the camp. He’s long and skinny and that hurt him some on the low blocks as a rebounder. But he played big and active on the glass. Foster was a presence as a shot-blocker and guarded the rim well. His upside is tremendous but patience is going to be required for his long term development. Very intriguing prospect.
Caleb Love, 6-2, St. Louis, MO: Surprisingly, the guard play didn’t separate itself out from the rest of the pack at the camp but the 6-foot-2 guard was crafty, quick and shot the three ball well in the game settings. He was one of the best guards in the camp and the gap between Love and the rest of the point guards was pretty wide. He played with controlled speed and production throughout the event.
Paul Smith, 6-7, Hyattsville, MD : One of the best big men in the camp, the DeMatha Catholic post player was a constant scoring force in the paint. Smith scored against comparable size and showed off a reliable offensive game. His go-to move was going over his left shoulder after a nice spin or curl from the right block. Smith was automatic with that move. The DMV has produced a number of quality power forwards over the years and Smith showed a skill set that should attract the top college basketball programs in the country over the next four years.
Terrence Williams, 6-6, Clinton, MD: There was a strong contingency from the Washington D.C. area at the camp and Williams was one of the several players from the area that stood out. Williams is a versatile and athletic combo forward that was consistently good throughout the event. The bouncy 6-foot-6 forward was one of the best scorers at the event and one of the toughest players to guard because of his inside-outside ability. He’ll suit up for the always successful Gonzaga program this season so there will be no shortage of proper game exposure for the youngster.
