Chaundee Brown nears five-star status
There is a ton of talk about the break out summers that have been for Collin Sexton, Wabissa Bede, and Darryl Morsell. Sure, each put together giant outings at various settings but let’s not forget what Chaundee Brown has done these past few months on the travel circuit. A pretty known name heading into the spring, the 6-foot-4, super strong and confident scorer of the ball, has burst out onto the scene as a big time recruit and one that could play his way into the McDonald’s All-American game next spring.
No one will ever question Chaundee Brown’s inability to get into the weight room. Sporting a Herculean-like physique and the physical tenacity with it that makes him impossible to stop whenever things get a bit chippy, there is a ton of instant production in tow with the Florida native.
One of the more efficient producers on the Nike EYBL circuit this past spring and summer, Chaundee Brown has reinvented his jumper as he hit on over 38-percent of his outside jumpers, shots that he primarily takes from off of the bounce. Throw in his solid averages of over 15 points and six rebounds at over 50-percent shooting from the field and it would seem that the Nike South Beach product is more than capable of becoming a solid scoring option immediately as a freshman in college.
In Los Angeles at the Nike Skills Academy, Brown kept the positive momentum intact as he hit shots with a contested hand in his face, defended various spots on the floor, finished at the basket, and even displayed improved play making skills within the early offense. While Brown does have to better his handles, the competitive traits and willingness to get better is already in place with the First Academy product.
It has been a whirlwind of a few months for Brown and after being seen as a cusp top-100 prospect back in the winter, the Sunshine State native is close to elite level status. “I have been putting in a lot of work, just trying to be a top player nationally,” Brown said about his recent success. “I wanted to play against the best and I wanted to show the scouts and college coaches that I could compete. I have been working every day, getting up a lot of shots at practice and just putting in a lot of work.”
The work is evidently seen through his numbers and production as schools have really heated things up for the rising senior. “Xavier, Georgia, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Florida, and a lot of others,” Brown recalled as to those that he speaks with the most often. “I will probably narrow things down to a final six but we will see how I feel during the visits and how the coaches treat me.”
While no recent visits have been made or set up just yet, there is a plan in place for Brown. “I am just taking my time with it all,” the top-50 prospect stated. “I am going to sit down with my parents in the next two weeks and see what the best fit is basketball wise and also with the education part. I want to major in technology.”
Having a plan in place and a consistent demeanor and production on the playing floor, expect for continued attention to be given to Chaundee Brown as things begin to wind down for the capable five-star guard out of the state of Florida.
