Jamal Norman stays close to home
Jamal Norman is used to being quick. The Savannah High School senior is one of the fastest guys with the ball in his hands. So, when he looked at his college options, the 6-foot-3 guard decided the school that was the fastest to get to was the perfect option. Norman committed to Savannah State this week.
He'll travel less than five minutes from his current home to college campus next year. More importantly, he'll probably see the court just as fast as he plays. Norman is a very important recruit for the Tigers. He was one of the best players at SSU's team camp in June and the staff has recruited him incredibly hard for two years.
Norman told Dennis Knight of the Savannah Morning News his decision was based largely on style of play.
“They play with a lot of energy on defense," Norman told Knight. "I’ve watched SSU play, and they use the full court press a lot. I’m used to playing hard-nosed defense, so that was a big factor. And it’s going to be good staying close to home. All the fans who watched me in high school can watch me play in college.”
Norman averaged 11.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game as a junior last year. He's one of the top players in Georgia's AAA classification.
