17U: CHOBEE NATION 71, ATLANTA WARRIORS 56

The 17U championship game featured two of the highest scoring teams of the weekend in the Atlanta Warriors and Chobee Nation. 

Just as expected, the game was a fast paced game of back and forth, with both teams looking to get the job done in transition. The first half was highly contested with leads being exchanged and the game keeping close. However, the fast pace nature of the game began to favor Chobee Nation in the second half because of their depth. They pulled away with the Warriors looking gassed, and won the game 71-56 to claim the title. 

It was the same familiar faces for Chobee Nation, with Demetrius Webster, Shaquoy Ferrol, and Demetrius Smith combining for 50 points in the win. Musa Thompson gave a valiant effort for the Warriors, scoring a game high 23 points with Keiondre Perry adding 12. 

16U D1: MIDDLE GA SUPERSONICS 65, TEAM PHOENIX 42

The Middle GA Supersonics got off to a blistering start Sunday afternoon in the USSSA Nationals 16U Division I championship, en route to claiming the first place trophy with a 65-42 win over Team Phoenix.

The Supersonics came out of the gates blazing hot, as they were able to put a sizable lead on the scoreboard before halftime. At one point, Team Phoenix was able to cut the Sonics lead to 10, but that was the closest reach the Phoenix would have heading into halftime.

Big man Travon Walker set the tone early in the paint for the Supersonics, as he scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half, all of which came in the paint. Zyrice Scott also pitched in 12 points of his own to help the Supersonics claim the championship win. They received scoring from nine of the twelve players on their roster.

Team Phoenix had an impressive run to the championship, but, ultimately, they just ran out of gas in the end. Joel Jenkins led them with 9 points in the loss.

16U D2: TEAM IMPACT 62, MARTIN COUNTY MAGIC 61

Big shots down the stretch from Team Impact’s Hunter Norman proved to be the difference maker in a back and forth affair.  Norman, who plays his high school ball at North Cobb Christian, provided two timely daggers in the lane on his way to a team-high 15 points. Kyi Randolph scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Nate Perrin netted 11 points and Kennedy Howery chipped in nine points to round out Team Impact’s top scorers.

After rallying from down seven at the half, Team Impact took a seemingly commanding 62-54 lead with 47.7 seconds left. The Martin County Magic would not go away however. Behind Darvion Blackshear’s game-high 18 points, German Torres’ 15 points (five threes) and Coleton Funk’s 12 points, the Magic crawled back into the game. Long forward Brandon Hill made an impression in the second half as well, finishing the night with six points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Down three with 9.5 seconds remaining, the Magic elected to go for a quick layup. Team Impact tried inbounding the ball but was called for a travel, handing the ball back to Martin County with now two seconds left. Funk got a clean look at a corner three, but couldn’t hit as Team Impact held on.

15U D1: 43 HOOPS 43, SKILL CENTER ELITE 40

Minnesota-based 43 Hoops turned a three point halftime deficit into a three point victory behind Dane Zimmer and Isaiah Watts. Watts scored 10 points and snagged seven rebounds from his forward position. His activity along with Zimmer’s dominance inside caused issues for Skill Center Elite.

After scoring four points in the first half, Zimmer began to eat away at Skill Center’s frontcourt. The long armed 6-foot-4 post finished with 13 points and gobbled up 18 rebounds. Zimmer attacked every loose ball with two hands and fought off aggressive Skill Center would-be rebounders. Zimmer also blocked two shots.

Christian Delon and JaMarcus Robertson kept Skill Center Elite in the game after 43 Hoops opened up a 41-34 lead late in the second half. Both players scored a team-high 11 points with Robertson corralling five steals and Delon, three. David Cexil added seven points and Zavion Campbell notched eight rebounds and two blocks, but when Skill Center had to foul late in the game, 43 Hoops’ Sam Nissen iced the game going 4-for-4 from the line and finishing with seven points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

15U D2: LIONS BASKETBALL 62, BULL CITY SELECT 56

In a neck-and-neck battle throughout the entire game, Lions Basketball was able to outlast Bull City Select by a score of 62-56 to clinch the HoopSeen USSSA 15U Division II championship.

Xavier Nance came up big down the stretch for the Lions, as he scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half. He earned Player of the Game honors. However, sharpshooter Odarius Cade hit some big shots while the Lions trailed to help put them back in the lead. Cade finished 9 points, all of them coming in the second half.

Bull City Select came out on the losing end, but the North Carolina based squad had a productive weekend. Christian Johnson led Bull City with 12 points in the championship game, earning the majority of his points from the free-throw stripe. Sam Hickman also contributed 10 points.
