Three Thursday #USSSANationals Quick Hitters
Three Quick Hitters from #USSSA Nationals Opening Night
The USSSA Nationals have brought teams from all over the country to compete for the crown as the best. Thursday night, those teams were in search of a good start to the weekend, playing hard and playing tough. Here are a few quick notes from the night of action:
- The 13U Miami Lightning have some future South Florida standouts. Big man Craig Starks was a force on the block and has elite level size for his age. He showed off some good footwork and finishing ability to. Combo guard Jacorey Brooks (pictured) showed an array of skills including a great ability to pass the ball as well as impressive size and length. He even rose up high for some finishes around the rim with some very impressive athleticism.
- The game of the night came in the 17U division between the Atlanta Warriors and Chobee Nation. These two teams went back and forth displaying scoring ability that was entertaining to watch. Chobee nation was led by Demetrius Clark, Shaquoy Ferrol, and Demetrius Webster, who were all in double figures. They were able to outlast a great performance from Keiondre Perry, who hit five threes in the loss for the Warriors.
- One of the better point guard performances of the night came in the 16U division with Team Impact’s Nayari Dampier. Dampier did a little bit of everything for Impact: he ran the offense, directed traffic, created for teammates, and knocked down perimeter shots en route to a 16 point performance with a handful of assists as well. The young guard could be an emerging sleeper in Cobb County.
