Elijah Weaver sets visit to Louisville and receives dream offer

One of the top prospects in not just the south, but throughout all of America, Elijah Weaver has thrived this spring on the UAA circuit running the point for the Team Breakdown 16-under squad. Bringing ideal, physical tangibles to the playing floor, the 6-foot-4 floor general has rattled in offer after offer, yet it was his most recent one that stood out to him.
Averaging over 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists per contest, Weaver has thrived in the more competitive affairs this spring and during the winter months with his Oldsmar Christian gang. The lefty sports an excellent, college ready type of physique that allows for him to produce in even the more highly physical affairs.
A guy that buys into creating for others as Weaver displays elite passing skills and incorporates quick-twitch abilities into his arsenal in getting wherever he wants on the floor, the Sunshine State native is a drive-first type of guard. He has gotten better at hitting the mid-range jumper, where he also added some consistency to his perimeter catch and shoot game. Due to his size and strength, Weaver is already more than capable of defending all three spots on the perimeter, displaying vast upside and potential moving ahead.
Relatively unknown to most early this spring, the 2018 guard feels like things have gone fairly well thus far. “I feel like I have improved on some things since the high school season,” Weaver said. “I just wanted to go out and show that with hard work and determination, you can accomplish your goals.”
If those goals were to receive offers and attention from some of the best of programs nationwide, it would seem like the Breakdown star has gone far and above just that. With offers in hand from the likes of USF, Nebraska, Florida, Louisville, and USC, it is four programs that have communicated more than others with the sophomore guard. “Florida, Villanova, Wake Forest, and Florida State,” Weaver said, in regards to those that he has spoken with the most often these past few weeks.
On Friday, the play making lead guard will take a visit to Louisville, a place that he could see himself playing at in the coming years. “I like them,” Weaver stated. “They are up-tempo and I think that fits my playing style well.”
While some of the better programs on the east coast remain involved, it was Weaver’s most recent offer, a dream offer of sorts, which really jumped out to him. “Villanova has been my dream for about as long as I can remember. Their playing style is up-tempo as well but not too structured. They use a lot of ball screens with getting into the lane and kicking out for the 3. I feel like I can fit right in,” Weaver said about the defending national champs. “July 15, I was on the phone with Coach (Jay) Wright and we talked for a few minutes about basketball and family and stuff and when he told me that they were going to offer me, I couldn’t believe it.”
Though there is still a lot to be played out with Weaver, the two-way producer at the lead guard spot should continue to see his game and recruitment hit the next level as the top-25 recruit has all of the physical tangibles in tow to be elite.
