NBPA Top 100 Spotlight: Devon Dotson
Devon Dotson was a popular player on the first day college coaches make one to one contact with the class of 2018. The Charlotte, North Carolina point guard spoke to HoopSeen.com about his recruitment at the NBPA Top 100 Camp.
Some schools rattled off phone calls to prospects at 12:01 p.m. on the first day they could make contact. Dotson, however, was out cold. That will happen after a long day at the invite-only camp in Charlottesville.
“Honestly, I woke up in the middle of the night and saw there were some calls on there and some texts. I was tired after day one (here at NBA camp) so I waited until the morning,” Dotson said.
He said he later spoke to coaches from North Carolina, NC State, Providence, South Carolina, Georgia and Cal.
The in-state Tar Heels have long been a regular in his recruitment, Dotson said, and he knows what kind of microscope comes with being a highly-recruited player in North Carolina. The Tar Heels will certainly be a player for his commitment.
“It is attractive, yes, but I want to look for what is best for me and my family. I want to go where I’m comfortable,” Dotson said. “I like it. It is a historically great program. They produce great guards. They look like they get players better. The campus is nice. I think it is a great school.”
Dotson said he’s also been on the campus of Wake Forest, NC State, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina. Dotson said he wants to find the right fit when it all comes down to it.
“(I want to) have trust in the coach, (see) where you fit into the team, and (see if you) are you going to come in and have an impact in the game when you get there. Things of that nature,” Dotson said.
Which schools and coaches have done a good job with Dotson so far?
“Coach Roy (Williams) has done a great job. Danny Manning, they keep in contact. Tennessee and Georgia, too.”
