Luka Garza eyes two visits while he continues to produce
Not many have had a better spring than Luka Garza. The 6-foot-10 big man has continued to flourish the past few months after bringing in offers from such programs as Louisville, Alabama, Pitt, and Northwestern, of which his latest has come from Indiana. At the NBPA Top 100 Camp this past weekend, Garza was back at it again, dominating the interior and showing off an evolving face-up game out to the arc.
The product of the Team Takeover program, Garza has established himself as one of the top centers on the national platform. Not only can the rising senior score with his back to the basket and over either shoulder, the Maret School 5-man can also step out and hit the outside jumper to 22-feet.
Not an elite athlete, the Takeover product is very physical and productive within the lane. He has fine hands and touch around the basket, yet has the vision and feel in making the proper pass out of the high post setting. Against some of the very best this past week in Charlottesville, Garza finished second in the entire camp in scoring the basketball as he made over half of shots from the floor, while missing just one of his 20 attempts from the charity stripe.
Due to his scoring prowess and production on the glass, schools have begun to ramp up their attention to the DMV recruit. After taking his first official visit to Iowa earlier in the month, a few more trips are planned in the coming weeks. “June 24, I am going to Louisville on an unofficial visit,” Garza told HoopSeen. “Then, after I land on the 26, I am going to Alabama for an official visit. That’s everything that is set for now.”
While other potential visits could take place to Princeton, George Washington, Georgia, Pitt, Indiana, and Northwestern, amongst others, plans have changed a bit as an early commitment could be on hold. “I didn’t know I was going to the NBPA Top 100,” Garza said. “It took up some time for visits so after the live periods and possibly a little bit longer,” the Maret School star said about a final commitment.
Whichever the case, due to Garza’s versatile skillset, toughness in the paint, along with major grades in the classroom, expect for those pursuing to heat up their attention further where the rising senior will be coveted this July.
