Orlando seems like it is become more of a destination area for basketball players instead of just a tourist stop. Adonys Henriquez wants to make sure of it.

He announced his commitment on Twitter after visiting the University of Central Florida this weekend.

Henriquez had offers to Butler, Creighton, Southern California, Minnesota and Clemson. Being 15 minutes away from the Knights campus appealed to him.

“You play better when you are comfortable,” Henriquez said. “It was a good fit. There are plenty of opportunities there.”

Henriquez’s commitment comes along with a string of commitments for head coach Donnie Jones and his staff. Henriquez will join BJ Taylor in the Class of 2014 recruits. The Knights have also received commitments from Alex Owens, Corey Saunders and Chad Brown, all from the Class of 2015.

Being part of this movement of Florida players staying in state to make O-town more than a tourist destination has motivated Henriquez.

“We want to turn them into a powerhouse,” he said. “We want to make something happen all in one place. Orlando is starting to become a basketball place.”

Adding Henriquez to the recruiting class, the Knights are getting a player who will add toughness and versatility on the court at 6-foot-6. The Orlando Christian product just felt he the fit was just perfect under Jones tutelage.

“They are going to use me all over the place,” Henriquez said. “He is going to play me everywhere to get me better.”
