Four teams to watch for at Gibbons
The best part about the annual Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions is the stripping of the shoe circuits. There’s no allegiances at Gibbons; the best of the best survive and advance. For this year’s event, we will have a full house of Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, and non-shoe sponsored teams. Here’s three teams to watch as the weekend unfolds…
Louisiana Dynasty and Elfrid Payton Elite: Last year, Elfrid Payton Elite made their first trip to Gibbons and had a successful event. With the likes of Brison Gresham, Javonte Smart, and Brandon Rachal on board, the Nike-based squad raised some eyebrows and showed Louisiana has an abundance of players. With that being said, watch out for Elfrid Payton’s 15U and 16U teams, along with the Louisiana Dynasty in the 17U division. Louisiana is notorious for having talented athletes – you just have to go find them.
Montgomery Fire: The Montgomery Fire have consistently competed in each age group during our Georgia Cup events. This weekend, they will find out how they match up on a national scale, as some of the top programs in the country are slated to be at Gibbons. No matter the competition level, the Fire has found a way to be in contention on Championship Sunday at Suwanee Sports Academy. They’re no longer a team surfing under the radar – watch out for the Montgomery Fire, as they will have teams in the majority of the younger age groups.
Pocket City Basketball: Pocket City is making the length trip from Indiana to showcase their talent in the Southeast this weekend. Why are they a team to watch? The skill level. Pocket City and other Midwest programs are known for their skill level and ability to play the game. With many different playing styles in play, Pocket City is a program to watch in the 16U and 15U divisions.
