Aaron Thompson eyes a Pitt visit

Winning is part the resume that Aaron Thompson brings to the table each time that he hits the floor. After being the lead guard for the past two years on the Nike EYBL circuit for the powerful Team Takeover crew and entering his senior year next winter as a three-year starter for the lauded Paul VI program in Virginia, experience is not lacking out of the Virginia native. On Friday, Thompson will take an unofficial visit to Pitt, a coaching staff that has made him a priority since taking over from day one several weeks back.
A tough-nosed guard who is best in setting the floor for his team in the half-court setting and making others betters on the drive to the basket, Thompson plays with a maturity about him that is hard to find in a high school junior. He isn’t known for his shot making skills but more-so for his facilitating abilities and deceptive burst as he gets to the basket on the downhill drive with ease. Defensively, the sturdy point man has become lauded for his on-ball skills as he can guard both spots in the backcourt and take his opponent out of his comfort zone because of his lateral abilities and developing physique that he uses well in keeping his counterpart in front of him.
“Dayton, Georgetown, Cal, Nebraska, and Pitt,” Thompson told HoopSeen of those that he is hearing the most from at the moment. However, on Friday, the Virginia native will head north and get a glimpse of what Pittsburgh has to offer.
While a new staff is in tow, familiarity is already in place for Thompson between himself and the coaches at the ACC program. “The four guys on their staff have recruited me on their previous staffs, so I have a good relationship already with them,” the Takeover product said. “They feel like I am the guy for their program and Coach Stallings believes in me just as much as anyone in the country.”
It should be noted that Thompson was the first offer that Kevin Stallings dished out whenever he took over in Oakland a few weeks ago and while the junior point guard will continue to sift through the process, it seems that the Panthers sit in a solid spot for one of the best guards out of the DMV.
