adidas Gauntlet: Ranking justifiers
One of the great things about the spring live period is seeing results. In recruiting, opinions rule the realm but production is generally the greatest ruler of right or wrong. There were three guys that justified their spot in our national top 100 ranking for the class of 2017 at the adidas Gauntlet Atlanta stop.
We ranked these players higher than the norm and all three guys justified their position in the HoopSeen 100.
Gill, MA
Kellan Grady, PG, New England Playaz: The Davidson commit was one of the trending players from the adidas Gauntlet Atlanta stop, making believers every step along the way. We currently have the 6-foot-3 point guard as the No. 42 overall player in the class of 2017. Compare that to his No. 164 composite ranking nationally. We like where Grady sits in our ranking and wouldn’t be surprised to see his composite number jump dramatically in the next national update. He’s a steal for Davidson, no doubt, but also one of the top overall point guards nationally. Don’t be fooled by an early commit to Bob McKillop’s program. Grady is the real deal.
Central, SC
AJ Oliver, SG, Upward Stars: The Clemson commit is the No. 74 on the composite list and No. 52 nationally on our rankings. We like we have our Fall Preview co-MVP on the list. In fact, we may slide him inside our top 50 ranking next go round. Oliver has to the tools to be a multi-year leading scorer for the Tigers. He’s a great shooter and shined on the perimeter. His Upward Stars are undefeated in Gauntlet play and led the league in defense. Oliver is a major piece to that success.
Jackson, MS
Nick Weatherspoon, CG, MBA Hoops: As noted yesterday, the Mississippi native was brilliant at the Atlanta Gauntlet stop. He led the event in scoring, posting 25.8 points a game. We have him ranked at No. 46 overall nationally and the industry has him at No. 97 composite. Truth be told, he has five-star ability. Weatherspoon could be a guy that we start to see in the McDonald’s All-American game.
