Andre Wesson calls Ohio State home
Putting together a quality senior season, Andre Wesson saw his recruitment expand greatly this past winter. A native of Columbus, Ohio, several MAC programs and mid-level schools throughout the Midwest were involved throughout the process but it was the in-state Ohio State Buckeyes that reeled in the 6-foot-6 forward.
With bloodlines leading directly to the Big 10 school where Wesson’s father is an alum and his younger brother, Kaleb, has already committed to the Buckeyes, the local product will keep things in order by suiting for the Thad Matta’s bunch.
The go-to guy for the Westerville South basketball program this past season, Wesson is a tough and physical small forward that can even slide over into the power forward spot as a small ball 4-man. He can facilitate a tad but is best attacking the basket and scoring off of the mid-range pull-up and on the hard line drive finish at the tin. Throw in the fact that the product of the All-Ohio Red program can guard various spots throughout the floor and there is a lot of value in the local recruit for the years ahead.
While one will not find Wesson’s name in most national rankings, the Buckeyes decided that his value was too much to lose as they beat out such others as Butler and Richmond for the productive senior.
Wesson becomes the second commitment within the past two days for Thad Matta’s crew joining CJ Jackson, an efficient scorer of the ball out of the junior college ranks. He is also joined by Micah Potter, a 6-foot-9 center, along with Derek Funderburk, a 6-foot-9, mobile and active power forward within the 2016 class. Outside of Jackson, the other three commits within the 2016 crop all hail from the Buckeye State and should immediately bring differing skillsets but also a chip on their shoulder to Columbus.
