HoopSeen Super-Regional 12U Championship Recap

The Championship game of the 12U division between Atlanta Xpress (Whetstone) and MC Warriors proved to be a fitting end to an exciting and competitive weekend of basketball.   The game went back and forth between the Atlanta based squad and the Warriors out of Huntsville, Alabama.  With 10 seconds to go in the game, Atlanta Xpress in-bounded the ball with an opportunity to tie the score, but a 3-point attempt from Kyle Hanson missed just wide at the buzzer and the MC Warriors celebrated their 47-44 victory to win the HoopSeen SuperRegional Championship.

MC Warriors Guard, Jacari Lane, led all scorers with 16 points.  Lane was outstanding all weekend scoring in a variety of ways.  Also, his ability to handle the Atlanta Xpress pressure in the 4th quarter may have been the difference for the Warriors.  Lane was named Tournament MVP.   Big man Oscar Hayes was also a difference-maker in the final game for the Warriors.  Hayes was able to neutralize the Xpress bigs, who had been dominant rebounding the ball all weekend.  Hayes pulled down huge defensive rebounds all game long and he also finished well around the rim scoring 11 points.   Tyrese Elliott added 8 points for the MC Warriors and was a great counter-pounch to Jacari Lane in the Warriors back-court all weekend.

Atlanta Xpress looked dominant in their games most of the weekend and has become a young team accustomed to winning.  Their depth and balance is very unique for such a young team.  After leading early in the 1st half the Xpress found the game tied at half after a flurry of 3s by the Warriors.  Again, the Xpress went to work and extended their lead to 5 points mid-way through the 3rd quarter but great half court defense from the Warriors really began to slow the Xpress offense down in the half-court and they fell behind by six points late in the 4th quarter.

Kyle Hanson was the offensive spark plug that brought that helped the Xpress rally late in the 4th quarter. He ended the game with 11 points.  Simeon Cottle added 10 points for the Xpress to cap an excellent weekend for the sharp-shooting guard.  Davin Farrell had 9 points and Bruce Thornton added 8 points for the Xpress.
