Aim High reaches goal to win 17U Best of the South championship

SUWANEE, GA – Two of the most disciplined travel programs in the Best of the South did not disappoint at all.

Aim High made just enough shots in the end to outlast PSB Select 56-53 for the 17U championship at Suwanee Sports Academy on Sunday. PSB had a shot in the end but it rimmed out.

CJ Jackson finished with a game-high 15 points to lead Aim High. He knocked down big shot after big shot to hold off the North Carolina-based team.

“It feels good to win,” said Jackson, who finished with 15 points. “We just tried to get the opportunity to go to college and get an education.”

Coming into BOTS, Jackson did not have any offers. When he left, Winthrop, Wofford, Youngstown State and Pfeiffer offered the Olympic High product. Coaches were able to see him knock down shots and showed that the moment was never too big for him.

“CJ had a great weekend,” teammate Eric Lockett said.

Malcolm Stegall also had a solid weekend for Aim High, especially late against PSB. The 6-foot-6 forward knocked down several critical baskets pulling down major rebounds and provided a significant block to help the Atlanta-based team.

Cartersville’s Ryan Davis also chipped in with 11 points to complete the players in double figures for Aim High.

PSB was clicking on all cylinders themselves the entire weekend, despite only having seven players to finish out the tournament. Hunter Seacat returned home on Saturday because of an illness. Nevertheless, the select moved on.

Connor Burchfield (a William & Mary commit) scored a team-high 11 points. He was relentless from the perimeter and showed poise in the team’s most critical moments. Teammate Jordan Watkins (Davidson) chipped in with 10 points.

Neither team panicked when it was trailing at any point in the game. They each stuck to their system. Aim High just had a little bit more in the end to win.
