While his team came up a bit short on its run for the NCISAA boys 3-A championship last week, JP Moorman still was able to show off his immediate value and long-term potential throughout the past few months. Running with the always successful and uber-talented Greensboro Day bunch, HoopSeen was able to catch up with the Carolina native recently in learning where the 6-foot-6 forward stands with his recruitment.

In keeping up with the recent trends that is the NBA and the college basketball realm, the desire for smaller but more versatile ballplayers to throw out onto the playing floor is becoming more and more evident. Moorman fits the mold of the Draymond Green-type that can run an offense in the half-court, yet defend the 1-4, rebound the ball within traffic, and score it from deep and at the lid.

As the go-to guy this past year for Greensboro Day, while the bunch didn’t end up where they wanted to but all was not lost for the junior. “I accomplished everything but one thing,” Moorman said. “I want to get another ring but I did get all-state and all-conference.”  

Outside of suiting up for his talented Carolina-based program, Moorman has been able to get around to a few college campuses and two weeks ago, he took a visit to the University of Richmond and VCU, both coming on the same day. “I like them both. They are really nice schools,” the versatile forward stated. “Richmond probably is talking to me the most.”

While nothing is planned for the foreseeable future in speaking on potential visits or an end to his recruitment, others such as Marquette, Cincinnati, and St. Louis have begun the process with Moorman, a product of the CP3 travel program that already holds offers from the likes of Virginia Tech, UCF, Charlotte, VCU, and UNC-Greensboro.

Expect for Moorman to continue to impress this spring and summer as he solidifies himself as an ideal, small-ball 4-man, or a quality small forward who brings a plethora of valuable traits to the playing floor each time out.
