E1T1 wins Peach Jam, next stop Best of the South

After the pictures were taken and the congratulatory handshakes were over, E1T1 point guard Joel Berry sat on his team's bench and packed his bags. He looked around at his teammates with bright smiles and new bright orange Peach Jam shirts enjoying the biggest moment of July.

Berry's team won the Nike EYBL championship game, putting away a feisty CP3 team with a 108-102 victory.

As the point guard and older brother of the club, Berry took a moment to reflect on a journey that spanned four months and 26 intense games against some of the best competition in America's prep basketball.

The North Carolina bound floor general said the journey, more than Sunday's victory, was the moment he won't soon forget. With big wins over Team Texas Elite, Team Takeover, Meanstreets, Team Penny and CP3 in the finals, the road the championship wasn't a cake walk.

"To go undefeated at the Peach Jam isn't easy. That's probably the biggest thing you can do here," Berry said. "It is a great feeling for our program. We came here last year and lost in the Elite 8 but came back here this year on a mission. We got it and we got what we want."

Berry was brilliant in the victory, blowing past future ACC foe Sheldon Mitchell time and time again. Berry finished with 22 points and eight assists in the win.

Berry didn't do it alone. Future Ohio State guard D'Angelo Russell scored22 points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out four assists. Boubacar Moungoro was a major force in the victory, scoring 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds, had six assists and three steals.

Class of 2015 big man Alex Owens was a beast on the boards, grabbing 16 official rebounds. Talk to the unofficial stat keepers in the coach's section and Owens may have ripped down 20 plus. The 6-foot-8 underclassman said the win was a work in progress.

"It took a lot of hard work and dedication," Owens said. "It is one thing to talk about it but it is another thing to be about it. Everybody had the same goal and the same mindset since day one."

Mid-season transfers like Duke commit Grayson Allen added a lot of value to the team, scoring 16 points off the bench. His addition, along with Owens and 6-foot-11 Trayvon Reed were key for the Florida team.

"I think I added a little spark and a little energy," Allen said. "This team always starts the game off really, really hot on a run. Coach told me to just keep it going when I get in there."

E1T1 will be back on the court this week at the Best of the South tournament. The event won't be an easy one either. E1T1 will play against the Southern Kings, Upward Stars, Florida Select and Game Elite.
